Whirlwind Recordings signs to Proper

We’re pleased to announce the recent signing of Whirlwind Recordings to an exclusive deal with Proper Note, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Proper Music Distribution. Whirlwind Recordings was established in early 2010 by international recording artist, freelance bassist, composer, bandleader, educator and producer Michael Janisch. The label is committed to releasing music that is original, creative, and soulful, with a key emphasis on improvisation. A record label completely owned and operated by musicians, Whirlwind Recordings aims to create art on the highest level; enjoyable music for everyone, and a fair and honest platform to help top-notch artists present their work to the world.

WWR Founder Michael Janisch has this to say:

“The last few months have been pretty hectic as a result of the GEM closure, but I’m very excited to be working with Graham Griffiths, Eddie Wilkinson and the entire team at Proper, who have proven themselves over the years to be a dynamic, forward-thinking and very importantly an enduring distribution company, and this is exactly what WWR needs for pressing forward in the current music sales climate. I have no doubt that this move will take WWR to the next level by an increase in CD sales– which will enable us to continue to do what we do– and also by raising the profile of all the world-class artists who release such special music with us.”

From October 10th – 12th, the inaugural Whirlwind Festival will take place at Kings Place in London. 18 Bands, all led by WWR artists will be performing across the three days showcasing a big swath of Whirlwinds entire catalog, with nearly 100 world class musicians performing a seriously eclectic mix of modern improvisational music. You can find out more about the festival on the Whirlwind website.
