Upcoming Rough Trade instores

Coming up next week we’ve two Rough Trade Instores, the first will see Kings of the South Seas play the new Rough Trade Nottingham store on Wednesday 17 at 7pm. Inspired by epic whaling expeditions of the early 19th Century from Britain to the South Pacific, round the South Sea Islands, the eponymous debut ‘Kings of the South Seas’ is a mesmerising and brave new album delving into the lives of the ‘whale men’ and their culture, expressed through a contemporary take on traditional song, broadsides and hymns. The group bring together elements of tropicalia, psychedelic rock, fuzz funk, musique concrete, acid house, radiophonic electronics, hair metal, voodoo and African, Brazilian and Latin rhythms. With vocals whispered, ranted and screamed in Portuguese, sounds lazered across time, and tropical rhythms and fuzz guitars fighting for supremacy, this band never deliver what you expect.
