Managed by David Webb and Graham Jones, The Proper Partner scheme was set up in October 2003 as a way of enhancing and tightening the chain that bonds independent retailers, specialist labels and specialist magazines to Proper Music Distribution. The scheme is open to all independent retailers and offers all Partner stores exclusive benefits:
Standard Terms Of the Agreement
|
| • |
Stores decide what genres they wish to sign up to. |
| • |
Automatic scale-outs of all Partner titles are supplied to stores on a Sale Or Return basis (re-orders do not negate a return). |
| • |
All Partner titles are supplied with a good file discount on initial orders and all re-orders, for a minimum of 90 days to enable discounted prices to your customers. |
| • |
Stores agree to stock a minimum of 2 copies of the relevant Partner magazine according to the genres signed up to. |
| • |
A free magazine rack is supplied to all stores and magazines are also supplied on sale or return. |
| • |
Your store will then be advertised in all the Partner magazines, free of charge to the store. |
| • |
Stores agree to actively promote Partner releases with in-store play and prominent use of all promotional materials and posters we supply. |
| • |
Proper Music will issue a quarterly returns document for free collection. |
| • |
Certain promotions and campaigns will be offered exclusively to Partner stores. |
| • |
Due to advance booking of advertising space, Partner retailers are required to give 2 months notice should they wish to leave the scheme (a very rare occurrence). |
Participating labels agree to pay a nominal sum for their product to be included in a full-page ad alongside a list of retailers who have agreed to stock it. The benefit to a record label is a simple one, maximum exposure of a release in-store and a guaranteed network of retailers agreeing to stock a Partner release. For the magazines, the scheme simply offers potential sales of the magazine from a vast network of stores with a huge demographic coverage in the UK.
The scheme has proved massively successful, growing from an initial sign up of 25 stores to the current operating level of around 150 stores. All stores, labels and magazines signed up to the scheme have reported a significant increase in sales, with a lot of stores expressing a welcome surprise at selling titles which they would never normally have stocked; which in a nutshell is the whole essence of the scheme.
The result is a multifarious effect, which is advantageous
for all. The labels sell more product, the stores sell
more product, the publishers sell more magazines and the
public gains access to a wider range of music that they
wouldn't normally find in their local store.
If you are an independent UK retailer wanting to join the Proper Partner scheme or a record label requiring further information, please fill in the form and we'll be in touch within 5 days.
