New releases
16.11.07
news picThis coming Monday sees another new release day upon us once again. From one of the countries greatest folk duos to Reggae classics and music from computer games- here’s the pick of the best.

As reported yesterday, Roots(HMCD28), The Show Of Hands best of, is thirty of their best songs over two CDs. Celebrating 16 years working together full-time, Phil Beer and Steve Knightley have selected a number of their favourite tracks for the first CD, while fans have picked one track from each of their albums for the second. All of these have been remastered for improved clarity of sound and housed in a casebound book package. There are tickets up for grabs for the album Launch at the Half Moon in Putney on the 27th of November at our amazon.co.uk storefront. Just follow the link at the bottom of the page for your chance to win.

Satta Massagana (HBCD7838) by The Abyssinians is hailed by many to be one of the greatest Reggae albums ever made, inspiring and influencing many of the Reggae vocal groups that followed. Contains the songs Declaration Of Rights and Reggaes ‘national’ anthem Satta Massagana amid equally breathtaking vocal displays, the album has been remastered and is complete with the previously unreleased tracks Jerusalem, Leggo Beast Dub, Abendigo (Extended Mix) and Poor Jason Whyte (Extended Mix).

Still on a Reggae tip, Studio One Singles (HBCD7836) by The Gladiators’ compiles some of their recordings in that most legendary of studios. One of the first successful roots groups, this compilation was originally released as a French bootleg. It is now released as an authorised version, with greatly improved sound quality as the original records have been sourced from the original studio masters.

Without a doubt the oddest release of the week, possibly the year is Run 10 (RRECD23) by the C64 Orchestra. A quarter of a century after its release, the Commodore 64 is becoming more and more popular as a retro gaming device and a programming tool- specifically for music. Micromusic and ON have teamed up with Dutch Ricciotti and conductor Bas Wiegers to form the C64 Orchestra. Together they reproduce lavish versions of the music from various C64 computer games, making the music transcend from its grey plastic surroundings and rocketing it into the stratosphere! Including music from classic games such as Cybernoid 2, Commando and Hawkeye. The second CD is complete with all of the original themes, the games International Karate, Cybernoid 2, interviews with Rob Hubbard and Jeroen Tel, two of the original C64 composers both involved with the project and a PDF of additional information, all housed in a collectors replica C64 box!

Also released is the international journey that is the World Travel series, compilations of traditional and modern songs from Hawaii, Portugal, Russia and Peru/ Andes.
