Gretchen Peters and The Waterboys on the BBC Radio 2 Playlist
Gretchen Peters’ first single, ‘When All You Got Is A Hammer’, from her new album ‘Blackbirds’, has been added to the B List on BBC Radio 2 whilst The Waterboys’ single November Tale has moved up onto the A List after 3 weeks on the B List. Also on the A List at BBC Radio Scotland, November Tale has had over 8 million listeners this week alone according to the official airplay stats.
Released on the 9th February, Gretchen Peters’ upcoming album features a who’s who of modern American roots music including Jerry Douglas, Jason Isbell, Jimmy LaFave, Will Kimbrough, Kim Richey, Suzy Bogguss and more.
But it’s not the guests that make ‘Blackbirds’ the most poignant and moving album of the GRAMMY-nominee’s storied career; it’s the impeccable craftsmanship, her ability to capture the kind of complex, conflicting, and overwhelming emotional moments we might otherwise try to hide and instead shine a light of truth and understanding onto them.
The Waterboys’ November Tale is taken from their long-awaited new album ‘Modern Blues’ which will be released next Monday, January 19th. The album was recorded in Nashville, produced by Mike Scott and mixed by the great Bob Clearmountain. Modern Blues is an electric, soulful, bold, freewheeling rock’n’roll record with a skinful of killer new songs, some of which have been premiered live over the past few years.
