2016 Mercury Prize Nominees Announced

The nominees for the 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize, which celebrate and promote the best of UK music across an eclectic rang of contemporary genres, were announced earlier today at a launch event hosted by 6 Music’s Shaun Keaveny as well as being announced live on Lauren Laverne’s BBC 6 Music show. We’re delighted to see Proper distributed artist Skepta included in the shortlist for his album Konnichiwa.

The shortlist was chosen by a panel of judges that includes former winner Jarvis Cocker, Kate Tempest, Jamie Cullum, Radio 1’s Annie Mac, pop producer Naughty Boy and various other industry figures.

Speaking about the nominees for this years awards, the panel of judges said “This is music to make sense of our unsettling times – heartfelt, angry, thoughtful and thrilling. The 2016 Hyundai Mercury Prize ‘Albums of the Year’ are marked by their musical ambitions, unexpected instrumentation and breathtaking arrangements.”
